Garden visit: Dyffryn Gardens

A sunny winter day! We made a visit to Dyffryn Gardens, which is quite local to us. And we joined the National Trust. Basically, they are doing a lot of good work dealing with the history of colonialism relating to their properties, as well as exploring LGBTQ+ history, and fighting the conservative forces trying to stop them doing this work. We kind of wanted to show we supported this. They also have a scheme that any disabled member can bring a carer free, so it made it a bit more affordable.

A collection of large terracotta pots with plants showing the range of colour possible in the middle of winter, These are mostly foliage, including trees like pines & Mahonias, and grasses.
A lovely display showing what is possible and looks good in the middle of winter.
A large tree with no leaves, next to our path in a parkland. It has a pleasing shape and looks lovely against a blue sky.
One of my favourites winter trees, Acer griseum.
Some branches of the tree against the blue sky. It has glowing orange branches, that look warm & gorgeous.
Acer griseum branches glowing in the winter light.
A large edwardian mansion kind of glowing against the clear blue sky.
Dyffryn House – the first time I’ve ever seen it without scaffolding.
A single, small, purple flower between two large rocks.
A very early flowering Anemone!
A large tree stump that has been turned upside down so that the roots kind of spread out like a fan. It has mosses, fans and lichens growing on it.
What a gorgeous stump for a stumpery. Me: I want! Kevin: thou shalt not covet thy neighbours stumpery…
A light pink flower with five petals that are speckled with maroon dots towards the middle.
A beautiful hellebore.

I find blogging much more difficult these days. If I have the energy to visit somewhere, I often don’t have the energy afterwards to write up a long post and include detailed photos. So I’m trying out blogging using speech-to-text, basic mobile phone photos with basic alt text, and adding these to my blog that way. I think it kinda works?!
